STUDENT FAQ
Q: How Long in Duration Are Your Courses?
A: Courses are normally two to three days in duration, but its not uncommon for hosts to schedule two or more courses back to back to provide longer and more varied training evolutions and a greater value for the students. Custom courses may also be scheduled by special arrangement. Often, we may schedule several courses together over a five or seven day week.
Q: What time does class start and end?
A: Our classes start at. Plan to be at the training location ready to begin at the class start time.Class is done when we cover the material we need to cover but our goal is to be done aroundfor most of our classes.
Q.
What if I am late?
A. In short - Don't be. The instructor and the other students have arrived on time and it is not fair to hold up the class for a late comer. As well, we begin each session with a Safety Lecture and a Waiver/Release of Liability which we will have to repeat for the late-comer. If you are late you may be asked to wait until a break so we can catch you up on the lost material. Students that miss the first day of training will not be allowed to attend subsequent days of the course without approval from HQ.
Q: What ammo can I bring?
A: We only allow Factory Full Metal Jacket ammo. This is both for the safety of the attendees as well as your own.
Q: What Gear Should I Bring?
A: For all classes you will need ear and eye protection. Each class has its gear requirements listed on the class page. Some equipment available today is trash, not functional in a class setting, and may actually be dangerous, so it will not be allowed in class.
We do not allow the BlackHawk CQC SERPA Holster - Active Retentiondesign because it requires the trigger finger to be doing something other than indexing along the frame of the pistol during the draw stroke.
Simply put...the Serpa is a poorly designed but brilliantly marketed holster that causes a user to press in with the finger tip as they draw their pistol. In many cases it ends up with the trigger finger right on the trigger (and pressing inward) prematurely. In other words...long before it would be safe to do so. I am aware of five situations at other schools where this has caused an AD on the range. Twice where it led so a self-inflicted gunshot. And these guys were either highly experienced shooters of seasoned operators. Twice I have personally seen in it force on force. If I allow a holster like that in class, having seen the problems and knowing the problems, and a student shoots themselves...it really would be my fault. As I understand it several other schools disallow these holsters.
In our rifle/shotgun courses we do not allow the combination of chest rig/tactical vest in conjunction with Concealment Holsters as we have found the two, used together, to create a potential safety issue. In short,PLEASE BRING QUALITY GEAR TO CLASS. We are fairly relaxed about this except for what we mentioned, but this is not the time to be pinching pennies.
In all of our courses we ask that you bring FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) or RN (Round Nose) ammo. This is to minimize the risk to you, the other students, and the instructors.
Q: Can I Bring My Video Camera?
A: No. We will not allow any video to be shot in class except by Suarez International Staff. We have a number of excellent DVDs available that cover the points discussed in class available to you if you wish to have a video notebook of what we did.
Thank You, We Look Forward To Training With You!
