DOUG LITTLE
Doug Little is our Staff Instructor for Arizona, Idaho and Utah. Originally from a small town in the foothills of North Carolina, Doug began shooting and developing fieldcraft skills at an early age. As an avid backcountry hiker and rock climber, he is no stranger to the wilderness. He has a degree in Political Science from Appalachian State University and completed two years of graduate work in International Politics concentrating in arms control and international security policy.
Doug headed west in August 1980 and spent 13 years in Southern and Northern California. During the time he was in the San Francisco Bay area, he experienced what is was like for a major metropolitan area to completely shut down during the days following the San Francisco Earthquake in October 1989. This event impressed on him the need for survival skills and preparedness. Doug has devoted a great deal of time and energy to studying first aid, emergency communications and other skills necessary in this type of catastrophic situation.
In 1998, Doug became a 'refugee' from California, settling in the Phoenix area. Finally living in a firearms-friendly environment, he began refreshing his rifle and pistol skills training with several local trainers in the Phoenix area. An accomplished instructor, Doug felt that he could improve on the quality of firearms and CCW training available in Phoenix and in 2003 founded Armed Personal Defense, a training company focused on NRA and Arizona CCW training. Since that time, Doug has literally certified thousands of students to receive their Arizona CCW permit
Doug first trained with Suarez International in January 2004. He recalls being impressed with the Suarez training philosophy of delivering Reality-Based, Student Focused, Concept Driven approach and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and depth of training that Gabe offered in his courses. He was proud to be offered the opportunity to join the Suarez Instructor team.
Doug has been a Suarez Instructor since May 2007 and instructs most of Suarez International's curriculum including Defensive Pistol Skills, Close Range Gunfighting, Fighting Rifle Skills, AK Gunfighting, AR Gunfighting, Advanced Rifle Gunfighting, Advanced AK Gunfighting, CQB-Fighting in Structures and Defensive Knife Skills courses. Doug is also an NRA Training Counselor in all major NRA disciplines, a Glock Certified Armorer and an internationally certified Crime Prevention Specialist. Doug is also the author of the Arizona CCW Guide, the premier online resource for information on concealed carry in Arizona. He resides in the Phoenix Metro area and is available to travel domestically and internationally to teach Suarez International courses.
